#WritingWednesdayAC: #BLESSED week one- celebrate others’ wins

Hi friend!

We’re starting a new series today called #Blessed. Around the internet, this hashtag is thrown around almost jokingly, I want to bring us to the collective realization of how much truth there is behind it! Up first...

We’re so #Blessed so we can: celebrate others’ wins.

Have you ever been in a position where someone in your life gets a “win” and you struggled to celebrate them? Maybe they got the job, or a promotion with a sweet raise, while you’ve been waiting for your boss to recognize all of your efforts. Maybe they bought a new house, while you’re still struggling to afford rent on an apartment that you share with 3 roommates. Maybe ANOTHER one of your friends gets engaged, and you’re just wondering if you’re ever going to find “the one.” Maybe it was the birth of their child (or grandchild, hello!), while you’ve been hoping and trying and praying for the same miracle for years.

First of all, let’s shake off the comparison. Much easier said than done, I know. The game of comparison we play is SO dangerous, because it can create distance and bitterness in our souls. I truly believe that there is a reason for everything, whether it’s our current apartment or relationship status. A good friendship can celebrate the wins of their friends regardless of if they are getting a trophy or not. Let me break down what I mean by that.

When I was a little kid, “participation trophies” did not exist. Whether it was a team sport, Girl Scouts, or the science fair, I didn’t get anything just for showing up. There were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies, and that was it. If my friend was on the winner’s podium, I had to learn how to celebrate them regardless of whether I got a trophy or not.

Let’s make a commitment to be a friend that genuinely celebrates our friends’ wins!
