#WritingWednesdayAC: #BLESSED week two- grieve others’ losses
Next up in our #Blessed series…
We’re #Blessed so we can: grieve others’ losses.
In high school, I learned that there is a big difference between sympathy and empathy. Sympathy is feeling sorry for someone in a bad situation while empathy is about understanding and sharing in others’ feelings.
It can be difficult to grieve the losses of others if you’re riding a “high” in your own life. You might be celebrating a summit on a mountain top, it can be hard to empathize with a friend who is in a valley. It can be hard to find the words, especially if the valley is unfamiliar territory.
Whether you’re a person of many words or you keep things short and sweet, letting someone know that you are sharing in their pain alongside them means more than you may ever know. Hope can come in the form of a hug, a text, or a letter.
Let’s make a commitment to be a friend of empathy in times of grief.
