#WritingWednesdayAC: The One with the New Year
Happy new year, friend!
It’s 2019! Can you believe it?! 2018 is over and gone, it’s a new year!
Maybe you don’t feel like you have a clean slate. Maybe you were excited about the idea of a fresh, new year, but something stole your joy. Perhaps you resonate more with this GIF of Ross from Friends:
I feel you. I experienced that 2 New Year’s in a row. Both 2017 and 2018 did NOT start on the note I wanted. And by the second day of a new year, I was already doubting that the year would be any different from the last. If that’s where you are today, I want to encourage you. Even if you feeling like you’re on the top of the world, this is for you, too.
Your fresh, clean slate is available everyday. Every morning when you open your eyes and arise from your slumber, you’re met with a new day. A new day with new possibilities and new opportunities. Don’t write off a whole year, a month, or even one week because of a day or a few hours that didn’t go as planned. I want to share a story with you to illustrate this.
On November 24, 2018, I was having a bad day. It was Small Business Saturday, and at Âme Courrier we were having our biggest sale of the year! But personally, I was on the struggle bus. I drove back to our apartment in tears after a really rough night. When I finally got home, Troy told me that he had left something in my car, so I went back out to search for it. As I walked back into the apartment, I found my man on one knee, asking me to spend forever with him. A bad day turned upside down very quickly as I cried a mix of sad, happy, excited, and overwhelming tears.
It might not be a proposal that turns your day around. Maybe it’s having some alone time to sort your thoughts, or a random act of kindness from a stranger. Instead of typical resolutions this year, resolve to see each day as a blank canvas awaiting your daily masterpiece. Make the most of every day, every hour, and every minute.
